Waterfront business district reopens following shooting

The Waterfront business district in Homestead reopened Saturday following a fatal shooting Friday night.

According to Channel 11 News' exchange partner The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a 23-year-old Braddock man was shot multiple times on the street near the Primanti Bros. and Yokoso Japanese Steak House.

Homestead police Chief Jeffrey Desimone confirmed the shooting occurred outside near the Yokoso restaurant around 10:15 p.m.

The shopping center was put on lockdown immediately following the shooting, and police did not clear the scene until around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The victim was taken to a hospital with four gunshot wounds to his legs and one above his groin. The shooter is still at large, and police have no suspects, the Tribune-Review reported.

The police did not immediately specify if the victim was a worker from the area or a patron.

A spokesperson for the Waterfront business district issued the following statement:

"An incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday at The Waterfront. Police believe this was isolated and we are no longer on lockdown. We take our customers' safety very seriously and will continue to work with the local police. At this time, all inquiries should be directed to the Homestead Police."

"It's strange, because it doesn't happen around here," said Alexis Macey, who was in Yokoso with friends when the shooting happened. "So when we're eating and we hear that, it's ... I worked down here for years, never had dealt with anything like that."

Witnesses inside nearby restaurants told Channel 11 they heard multiple gunshots, and saw a man running before falling to the sidewalk. They said he was alert and responsive.

"We were just having a couple of drinks and eating some sushi, and we heard a couple of pops and everybody was ducking, scared," said Richard Barkley, who was with Macey.
