Soon-to-be brides out of a reception venue after facility abruptly closes

OAKDALE, Pa. — Several soon-to-be brides said they are now out of a reception venue after the place they had already booked closed with no warning.

The Cornerstone on Steubenville Pike in Oakdale closed sometime during the last month.

"Our wedding is Sept. 21st of this year," Victoria Penwell said. "We saved for that venue for two years."

Penwell said her wedding ceremony and reception were supposed to be at the event facility. She called the situation "extremely frustrating" telling Channel 11 she had already paid $3,000.

Another woman who talked to Channel 11 said she had already put a $4,000 down payment to use the facility.

Channel 11 went to the Cornerstone to get answers.

All but one door was locked, the website for the company no longer exists, and the phone number doesn't work.

The owners of the Cornerstone were tenants in the building. The people who own the property own a hotel next door. A lawyer for those individuals said the tenants stopped paying the rent, failed to renew the liquor license, and now the owners are suing them for back rent.
