Woman claims she was evicted from apartment after reporting issues to health department

A woman is claiming she was evicted from her apartment because she reported issues with it, and that home was a church.

Cindy Minnich has lived in the apartment attached to the Highland Grove United Methodist Church in McKeesport for six years, but this month will likely be her last.

Minnich said she called the health department to report an issue, and two weeks later she “magically” got an eviction notice. The complaint was about a leaking roof.

An eviction letter was then sent around two weeks later, Minnich said.

“It’s been going on for three years and they will patch it, but it’s never nothing that lasts,” Minnich said.

Minnich said she didn’t pay rent in July or August, so she could afford to move out.

In the hearing, church representatives said Minnich was often late on rent. They also admitted to offering her a new lease just weeks before she contacted the health department and was evicted.

The judge told everyone involved he will make his decision in the next three days.

Minnich said she needs “some kind of justice” as she continues to look for a new place to live.
