DONORA, Pa. — Police rescued a woman from an early-morning duplex fire Friday in Washington County.

The fire started around 12:45 a.m. along Heslep Street in Donora.
Steven Calloway, who lives on the other side of the duplex, said the woman may have been cooking. He spotted the flames and smoke coming from the home and pointed police in the right direction.

“They go there and open up the door, kick it in and drag the lady out,” Calloway said. “They told me, ‘Get over here.’ It was, it goes that quick.”
Investigators said the flames burned through to the other side of the duplex, much of which was gutted and charred.
The woman was evaluated by medics at the scene, and the Red Cross is assisting the fire victims. The cause of the fire was not known as of Friday evening.
