Crosstown Boulevard Closure Scheduled This Weekend

PITTSBURGH,None — PennDOT has planned a major closure of the Crosstown Blvd ramps this weekend. Several other short term and long term closures could cause delays heading to and from the city. Below is a summary of the major closings and restrictions this weekend:

Short-Term

I-579 Crosstown Boulevard Closures The ramp from southbound I-579 (Crosstown Boulevard) to the southbound Liberty Bridge will be closed 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. Crews will be replacing expansion dams on the ramp. The ramp from Crosstown Boulevard to the eastbound Boulevard of the Allies/Parkway East (I-376) will remain open.

Fort Duquesne Bridge Intermittent single lane restrictions and short-term closures will occur as needed Friday night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the ramps to-and-from I-279 (Parkway North), Fort Duquesne Boulevard, and the 10th Street Bypass in the City of Pittsburgh. Only one ramp will be restricted at a time.

Liberty Tunnel The Liberty Tunnel will be closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

Clairton Glassport Bridge The Clairton Glassport Bridge will be closed to traffic 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. The bridge carries Route 2038 over the Monongahela River between Route 837 in Clairton and Route 2001 (Glassport-Elizabeth Road) in Glassport.

Long-Term

Boston Bridge The Route 48 Boston Bridge in the Borough of Versailles and Elizabeth Township is closed through Sept. 27. Pedestrian traffic is also restricted at this time.

Route 65 Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) is closed long-term in both directions at the Marshall Avenue (Route 19) interchange continuously through late November 2011. Crews are rehabilitating the mainline Route 65 bridges at the interchange between the West End and McKees Rocks bridges. Traffic is being detoured using the on-and-off ramps to Beaver Avenue and California Avenue.

Route 28 Northbound Route 28 is reduced to a single lane between the 31st and 40th street bridges through 2012.

Crosstown I-579 Bridges and Ramps The ramp from the westbound Boulevard of the Allies to the southbound Liberty Bridge is closed continuously through Aug. 20 for bridge rehabilitation.

The bridges that connect Sixth and Seventh avenues to Washington Place over I-579 near the Civic Arena are closed continuously through mid-October 2011.

I-79 Single lane closures (two of three lanes open) are in place around-the-clock in both directions on I-79 in the area of the bridge over Mingo Road between Exit 73 and 75 in Marshall Township through mid-August.
