The actor had recently been diagnosed with cancer, Deadline reported. Einstein's brother, fellow actor Albert Brooks, confirmed the death with a tweet.

“R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever,” Brooks tweeted.

Einstein got his start writing for comedy shows like “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” which earned him his first Emmy Award in 1969 for Outstanding Writing Achievement in Comedy, Variety or Music. He won his second Emmy Award in 1976 for Outstanding Comedy-Variety or Music Series for his work on “Van Dyke and Company.”

Einstein was perhaps best known for his character Super Dave Osborne, a bumbling stunt performer. The character had his own show, “Super Dave,” on Showtime from 1987-91.

Einstein had been a recurring character on Larry David’s HBO comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” since its fourth season. He appeared in the show’s 2017 reboot season.
