Anthony Bourdain auction to sell off chef's personal possessions

NEW YORK — Personal items belonging to the famous traveling chef Anthony Bourdain are heading for the auction block next month to help raise money for his family and a charity a year after his death in France.

Among the items for sale include Bourdain's custom steel and meteorite chef's knife made by Bob Kramer and valued at up to $6,000, according to the auction site iGavel.

Other items include artwork, clothing, his personal writing desk and an original manuscript from an early draft of Bourdain’s “A Bone in the Throat.”

Part of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the celebrity chef's wife, Ottavia Busia, and daughter, Ariane, with 40% going to help fund a scholarship in his name from The Culinary Institute of America, his alma mater, according to The New York Times.

The Anthony Bourdain Legacy Scholarship helps CIA students pursuing a semester abroad or those involved in the school's international global cuisines and culture programs.

The auction is expected to raise between $200,000 and $400,000, the Times reported.

A preview of the auction items begins online starting Oct. 2 with three exhibitions of select items from Oct. 9 – 30 in New York at Lark Mason Associates, in Texas at Lark Mason Associates and in Georgia at Everard Auctions.

Bourdain, 61, was found dead in his hotel room in Kaysersberg, France, in June 2018 while filming an episode of his Emmy award-winning cable show "Parts Unknown." The medical examiner ruled he died by suicide.
