Customer voices outrage after restaurant uses Kaepernick jersey as floor mat

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach, Virginia, man said he will no longer visit a neighborhood bar after what he calls a "disgusting" and "racist" act.

WTKR reported that James Perry said he visited Krossroads Rock and Country Bar and saw a red #7 Colin Kaepernick jersey taped to the floor of the bar's entrance like a welcome mat.

On Saturday, Perry took to Facebook, posting a photo of what he saw and expressing his thoughts.

"Now would we be wrong to (tape) a police officer uniform to an entrance of an establishment? This young man is exercising his constitutional right and is being vilianize (sic) for it," Perry wrote.

Perry said Kaepernick's actions didn't line up with the alleged crimes of other athletes, including rape, domestic abuse and murder.

"Racism is real, people, and yes, this is a racist act. An overall disgusting one," Perry wrote, adding that the bar should be boycotted.

The post has been shared over 5,000 times.

Customer Carol Bevilacqua said she was not offended by the act. "I think we live in a free country," she said. "I think people are allowed to do what they want."

WTKR reported that the manager of the bar said that taping the jersey to the floor was not about race but about sportsmanship and Kaepernick's disrespect for the flag.

Perry, a longtime customer, says he will no longer patron the bar.

This is not the only business to use a Kapernick jersey as a doormat. A Chicago matress store owner used a replica of the jersey in a similar fashion.
