Driver crashes van into Scientology ‘Way to Happiness' building, police say

CLEARWATER, Fla. — An inebriated driver fled the scene after crashing into a parked van, sending the van into the Church of Scientology’s Way to Happiness Foundation building Friday morning, police said.

Using license plate information, police identified the driver as Nicholas J. Esposito, 39, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Someone hit this parked car overnight at 33 N. Fort Harrison. The impact pushed the vehicle into a nearby building. The driver fled the scene, but was later arrested by officers.

Esposito was treated at a hospital for facial injuries sustained in the crash, the Times reported.

He was then arrested and charged with driving under the influence involving property damage and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. He was released from jail on $500 bond.
