Hurricane season is weeks away, but storm could be brewing in Atlantic

MIAMI — The official start of the 2019 hurricane season is June 1, but forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said a potential tropical storm could form this weekend or early next week, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

The Hurricane Center said an area of low pressure is expected to form several hundred miles south of Bermuda and gave it a 30% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next five days.

Forecasters said if a tropical cyclone forms, it is expected to move north or northwest.

The National Hurricane Center said an area of low pressure had q 30% chance of developing into a tropical storm.

If the storm's wind speed reaches 39 mph, it will be named Tropical Storm Andrea.

Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30.
