EDMONTON, Alberta — A man saved his dog Saturday after it plunged into freezing water when thin ice broke at a park pond.
Duncan McIver dived in to save his dog, Cosmo.
"As soon as the ice broke, I went right in. I don't know, I think most people would do the same thing for their dogs," McIver told CTV, which had a reporter at the scene working on an unrelated story about thin ice.
St. Albert officials said there has been an increase in ice-related rescues, according to CTV.
The ice kept breaking under McIver’s weight as he swam with Cosmo to shore. They made it to safety.
"It's a split-second thing,” McIver said. “You're not going to just let him die, right?”
