Paul Manafort transferred to minimum security prison

WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, has been transferred to a minimum security prison to serve his sentence following convictions in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling, according to reports and records from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Prison records showed Manafort, 70, was listed at the United State Penitentiary, Canaan, a high-security federal prison in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, that also has an adjacent minimum security satellite camp. The Washington Post reported Manafort was being housed Tuesday at the minimum-security camp after his transfer late last week from a jail in Virginia.

Prison records show Manafort is expected to be released from prison on Christmas Day 2024.

Manafort was sentenced in March to serve 7 1/2 years in prison after he was convicted of conspiring against the United States, conspiring to launder money and bank and tax fraud charges connected to lobbying work he did for pro-Russia forces in Ukraine. The charges brought against Manafort did not touch on work he did for Trump.

Minutes after his sentencing hearing in March, Manafort was charged by prosecutors in New York with new counts of fraud. If he’s convicted in a state court, Manafort would be ineligible to have those crimes pardoned by Trump.
