Investigators said an adult and minor tried to rob a Domino's Pizza driver at gunpoint around 8:30 p.m. outside a Comfort Inn motel, WLEX reported.

The driver pulled out his gun and exchanged gunfire with the robbers.

"I know there were some people in the parking lot who said they took cover," Sgt. Kevin Grimes, of the Nicholasville Police Department, told WLEX. "Obviously we saw where some rounds had hit the building. So, I think people were kind of alerted and a little nervous about this situation."

The adult suspect was shot. He was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown.

The juvenile suspect was taken into custody.

Charges against both suspects are pending, police say.
