Reward offered for missing retired war dog

Darja, a retired explosives dog, went missing Saturday.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A reward is being offered for a retired war dog that ran away over the weekend in Virginia.

Darja, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois,  went missing around 6 p.m. Saturday.

The retired explosive detection dog was last seen wearing a red collar.

Frankie Rivas left Darja with a friend while she went out of town, according to WVEC. Rivas believes Darja, who is "super sweet" and "timid," jumped a fence in an effort to find her.

Darja worked at a kennel in Kuwait. She retired early because of issues with that facility. She and nine other service dogs were brought back to the United States in July by Mission K9 Rescue, a rescue group for working dogs. Rivas adopted Darja in September.

The rescue group is offering a $750 reward for her return.
