Teen motorcyclist dies after hitting SUV at 170 mph, police say

ST. ANN. Mo. — A 19-year-old Missouri man died Saturday after crashing his motorcycle into an SUV at a speed police believe reached 170 mph, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the man as Warren Daniels, of Bridgeton, the newspaper reported. Troopers said Daniels was driving a 2008 Kawasaki and was wearing a helmet. The crash occurred on a road in St. Ann, where the speed limit was 35 mph, the Post-Dispatch reported.

St. Ann Police Department Commander Jeff Tesdall said Daniels was thrown onto the ground when the teen hit the SUV and his motorcycle slid into another car, KMOV reported.

"It was noticed that the speedometer on the motorcycle was pegged and stopped all the way at 170 mph," Tesdall told the television station.

The SUV, a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, was hit on the passenger side. The driver of the SUV was not injured, St. Ann police Chief Aaron Jimenez told the Post-Dispatch.

Daniels was pronounced dead at an area hospital, KMOV reported.
