Missy Rogers, 19, posted a photo of two pairs of shorts made by and purchased from the retailer.
Rogers claimed that both pairs of shorts fit her physique the same despite one being a size 4 and the other being a size 10.
"As the photo shows, they both have the same waist line and width. The only difference is the year I bought them, length and slightly different style," she wrote. "How is it that what was considered at size 4 is now the same dimensions of a size 10?"
Rogers said the sizing difference made her self-conscious about potential weight gain.
She told the "Today" show that inconsistent sizing at all stores forces women to endure an overwhelming shopping experience, including "finding something that looks cute on the rack, trying the clothes on, running back out to find a different size and then waiting again for a fitting room that only allows so many items in at a time."

"I do worry about the message younger girls have with media promoting 'the perfect skinny body.' They have been convinced that the smaller size you are, the more beautiful you are. This is not the case, and I think it's important to show that clothing size should not define your beauty," Rogers wrote. "If a size 10 is what a size 4 use to be, what message are you implying to younger girls?"

Rogers' post has been shared more than 70,000 times.

American Eagle responded to Rogers' post.

"We agree fully with Missy that women are so much more than numbers, which is why we are so strongly committed to body positivity," Chad Kessler, the company's global brand president, said "Like every retailer, we strive for consistency and clarity to help our customers make decisions. We've reached out to Missy to get her feedback on her shopping experience and look forward to engaging in a discussion around this important issue."

I'm not one to be big about facebook rants... But I do feel that this needs to be shared. This is a photo of two pairs...
