Tennessee man arrested after shooting arrow at deputy, officials say

A Tennessee man was arrested Sunday after shooting an arrow at a Franklin County deputy, WTVF reported.

James Micheal Ferguson, 39, of Winchester, is charged with domestic assault, two counts of felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment, failure to obey a police officer, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and on a warrant revoking his bond on previous charges, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported. He is being held without bond in the Franklin County jail..

According to officials, Ferguson allegedly failed to obey traffic commands while traveling through the scene of an accident, WTVF reported, citing a release from the Sheriff's Office.

Ferguson approached the crash scene and told a deputy, "'That's my car there in that wreck.' And the deputy said, 'Let me see your ID,' and then he put it in reverse and down the road they go," Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Chris Guess told the Times Free Press.

Deputies said they did not immediately pursue Ferguson because of road conditions but knew where he lived, the newspaper reported.

When Deputy Patrick Stefanski arrived at Ferguson's home and exited his vehicle, he saw a man holding a compound bow, WTVF reported. Stefanski moved behind his patrol car, and Ferguson then allegedly shot an arrow that became embedded in the rear driver's side door of the patrol car, the television station reported.

"It would have gone all the way through a human being," Guess told the Times Free Press. No one was injured.

After a brief chase on foot, Stefanski and two other deputies were able to catch Ferguson and take him to the Franklin County Jail, the Times Free Press reported. No one was injured, authorities said.

Authorities later learned that earlier Sunday, Ferguson allegedly vandalized the house he shares with his mother, Guess said.

Ferguson will appear in court March 7, WTVF reported.
