Coralia Gomez, 41, faces a charge of cruelty to animals, a class A misdemeanor, KXAN reported.

Authorities were called to Bob Wentz park in Austin at 3:09 p.m., the television station reported. A park intern said Gomez had tried to enter an area of the park that was off-limits to pets. She left and returned moments later without the animal, KEYE reported.

The intern said he saw Gomez put the white Labrador puppy in a gray Dodge Ram. He called the police, and when they arrived, they observed the puppy panting and shaking, KXAN reported. No water was seen in the car, the television station reported.

There was a 1-inch opening in a rear side window, which is not enough to keep the temperature from rising, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police used a window punch to break into the car, KEYE reported. The temperature was 91 degrees outside and more than 100 inside the vehicle, the television station reported.

At 4:35 p.m., Gomez returned to her vehicle and attempted to leave the park, police said. She was pulled over and arrested, KXAN reported.
