'That is my truth': Wendy Williams tearfully reveals she's living in a sober house

NEW YORK — Wendy Williams has come clean about the reason for her two-month hiatus from her daytime talk show.

Us Weekly reported that the 54-year-old mother, wife and author revealed toward the end of her Tuesday show that she has been working on her sobriety.

“You know me for being a very open and truthful person and I’ve got more to the story for you,” the host, 54, said. “You know (my husband) Kevin (Hunter and I) have The Hunter Foundation for the good of the people. We recently launched our 888-5 HUNTER number for those of you caught up in the struggle of addiction,” she said. “Well, for some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house. When you see me come to work glammed up, right after the show I go across the street, I do my Pilates. I told you – two hours a day or (so) to take care of my body.”

Williams has been candid about her past struggles with cocaine abuse, which she said she quit without any help. Now, she says she goes to “several meetings” in the tri-state area for her sobriety.

"I see my brothers and sisters caught up in their addiction and looking for help," she said, according to Page Six. "They don't know I'm Wendy. They don't care I'm Wendy. It's the brothers and sisters caught up in the struggle. It's been really interesting, this ride."

She said only her immediate family knew she was at a sober living facility.

“Only Kevin and Kevin (Jr.) know about this. Not my parents, nobody. Nobody knew because I look so glamorous out here, she said. “After I finish my appointments, seeing my brothers and sisters, breaking bread, I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to the home that I live in here in the tri-state with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family. They hog the TV and watch soccer, we talk and read and talk and read. and then I get bored with them. Doors are locked by 10 p.m. Lights out by 10 p.m. So I go to my room, and I stare at the ceiling, and I fall asleep to wake up and come back here to see you. So that is my truth.”

Williams returned to her talk show March 4 after a two-month hiatus for health reasons, which included a fractured arm.

On her first show back from hiatus, Williams briefly addressed rumors about the reason for her absence, saying she visits the gym every day for two hours a day.

“I’m at home and I’m taking my thyroid meds and I’m meditating,” she said.

She also maintained that her marriage was fine.

“I’m still very much in love with my husband and anyone who’s been married, you know.”

“Marriages have ebbs and flows, marriage isn’t easy. And don’t ask me about mine until you see this gone,” she said, pointing to her wedding ring. “And it ain’t going anywhere, not in this lifetime.”
