SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A woman is facing vehicular homicide and DUI charges after a bicyclist was hit and killed Wednesday morning on a busy road in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
The road was shut down in both directions for nearly four hours while authorities investigated the deadly crash. All lanes were reopened just before 9 a.m.
Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Marten Bijvankn of Sandy Springs.
"He was riding his bicycle southbound on Roswell Road, and he was struck by a vehicle that was passing by," Sandy Springs police Sgt. Sam Worsham said.

The driver of a Chrysler sedan, 34-year-old Antoniette Battlen of Atlanta, crashed and came to a stop about 100 yards up the road. She was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived around 5 a.m., Worsham said. Bijvank was dead at the scene.
In addition to charges related to Bijvank’s death, police said Battle is facing an additional charge of driving without a license.
