UPS driver saves woman held captive and abused, authorities say

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. — A UPS driver might have saved a Missouri woman's life, according to authorities.

Officials said she was held captive in her home in Robertsville and beaten for hours until the driver showed up on Tuesday to pick up a package.

"She is alleging she was assaulted in various ways, to include with a handgun," said Franklin County Sheriff's Department Sgt T.J. Wild.

James Jordan,33, is charged with physically and sexually abusing his wife.  According to court documents, he punched, threatened to kill her and dragged her back inside by her hair when she tried to run away.

Sheriff's officials said the couple's 3-year-old son was locked in his room for 15 hours with no food or water while his mother was being assaulted.

Investigators said the abuse lasted throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning and the woman had no way to call for help.  A UPS driver came to the door after being called to pick up a package, and the woman wrote "contact 911" on the box.

He left and called authorities, who arrived and arrested Jordan.

"He made a huge difference," said Wild.

Jordan is charged with domestic assault, sodomy, felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

His bond is set at $100,000 cash only.
