A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report says fertility rates dropped over the past decade.
Fertility rates dropped 12 percent between 2007 and 2017 in rural areas. It fell 16 percent in suburban areas and 18 percent in larger urban areas during the same time.
The report also found that first-time mothers are older on average, and women in the U.S. are having fewer kids.

In 2017, the average age of new moms in rural areas was 24.5 years old. In suburban areas it was 25.8 and in urban areas it was 27.7.
The report said the general trend held true across all races.
