Car slams into sleeping Butler Co. woman's bedroom

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — A vehicle crashed into a duplex in Butler County on Monday morning.

According to dispatchers, a person inside the residence on Arthur Drive in Center Township called 911 at about 4:30 a.m. because they thought they heard an explosion.

When emergency officials arrived, they discovered the car left Route 308 and had gone airborne.  It crashed through the yard of the house, then into the bedroom.

A woman who was asleep inside the duplex was not hurt.

"Bricks went through the closet door, the ceiling fan was broken up, the whole side of the house is across the bed," Melody Cunningham said.

Police believe the car picked up speed as it went downhill into the house.

"It struck a tree and impacted here, going airborne into the house," said Chief Nathan Wulff of the Unionville Fire Department.

According to Cunningham, her only injury was a broken fingernail. The driver's injuries were more severe.

49-year-old Michael Mazurek was inside the car was seriously injured and was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. %

The driver's name was not released. Police are investigating why he veered off the road.
