Vehicle hits utility pole, keeps going after being shot at in Brighton Heights

PITTSBURGH — A vehicle struck a utility pole Tuesday afternoon and kept going after shots were fired at it from another vehicle in a Pittsburgh neighborhood, Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski reported.

The incident was reported shortly after noon in Brighton Heights.

Kaminski reported that both vehicles involved continued driving after the shots were fired on Fleming Avenue. One of them hit a utility pole on Richardson Avenue, but was gone before police arrived. Power lines fell onto the road and electricity was knocked out to homes in the area.

Paul Kirby said he saw a man firing a gun from one of the vehicles outside his house.

"I just got home from work when I heard shots,” he said. “(The man) was hanging out the passenger side window firing at the dark-colored vehicle in front.”

The vehicle that hit the utility pole, a black Jeep, eventually stopped at Shadeland Avenue and Complete Street, police said. The 22-year-old driver and his 19-year-old passenger were not injured, but the vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it.

Police are investigating.
