Vigil held to remember 14-year-old killed on Fourth of July

RANKIN, Pa. — A vigil was held Friday in Woodland Hills to remember a 14-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Rankin on the Fourth of July.

Kennir Parr was in a crowd at the Hawkins Village housing complex when a gunman opened fire on them. Kennir was struck in the back of his head.

“One of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life was watching my son wake up in the morning and having to explain to him that one of his close friends is no longer with us,” one person who spoke at Friday’s vigil said.

Kennir, who was making his mark with baseball, dreamed of becoming a professional athlete.

“A high-quality young man. That's the only way I can think to describe him,” someone who attended the vigil said.

Balloons were released for Kennir, who friends called “Parr." No arrests have been made in connection with his death.
