Washington County house fire that left 6 homeless ruled arson

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A home in Washington County was destroyed Sunday morning when it was engulfed by flames.

The blaze was reported about 7 a.m. on Allison Avenue in the city of Washington.

Intense flames and heavy smoke poured from the house, which consisted of three apartments, before crews brought

the fire under control. Two neighboring homes sustained minor to moderate damage.

Emergency dispatchers said the house was occupied at the time, but everyone got out safely. The Red Cross is providing assistance to five adults and one child.

"Large house with a large fire, and as you can see it's a city street, and it's hard to maneuver here," city of Washington Fire Chief Linn Brookman said.

Fire investigators said Monday that the fire was intentionally set and was ruled arson. Authorities said they’re working to determine who purposely set the front porch of the home on fire.
