Severe Weather Team 11 tracking coldest air of season, chance for snow later this week

PITTSBURGH — A Winter Storm Warning issued for the mountains of Westmoreland and Fayette counties that was set to expire at midnight has been cancelled.

Substantial precipitation has ended and most locations have risen above 32 degrees. No additional ice accumulation is expected during the night, prompting the cancellation of the warning.

Locally, rain lingered through the Tuesday evening commute, but has since cleared out.

A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain and even some snow fell Tuesday in the mountains, where temperatures stayed at or below 32 degrees.

After a brief mix of rain and snow along the I-80 corridor earlier Tuesday, precipitation changed to all rain.

Wednesday's high will climb to 40 degrees, with plenty of clouds. Much colder air will move into the region for the latter part of the week with scattered lake-effect snow showers likely Thursday and Friday.
