Woman shot in chest inside Turtle Creek home; 3 men questioned

TURTLE CREEK, Pa. — A woman was shot in the chest early Friday inside a home on Brown Avenue in Turtle Creek, Channel 11's Steven Fisher reported.

According to investigators, three men live at the home. One of their girlfriends was walking up the steps at about 3 a.m. when one of the roommates fired a shot.

"We are unsure if she came in from outside or she came up from being downstairs,” Turtle Creek police Chief Dale Kraeer said.

The 23-year-old victim was in surgery Friday morning and was listed in critical condition.

The three men were taken to Allegheny County police headquarters to be questioned. They were not charged with a crime and were released.

"We think it was possibly an accidental shooting,” Kraeer said.

Police said the victim had gone to the basement laundry to retrieve a comforter and as she returned upstairs, she was mistaken for an intruder. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
