Woman wakes up to man with knife in bedroom of Cranberry Township home

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A woman woke up Wednesday to a man, who had a knife, inside her bedroom in Cranberry Township, police said.

The man fled after threatening and getting involved in a brief struggle with the victim, according to a criminal complaint. He dropped the knife in the bedroom of the Bellwood Court home before getting away.

The incident was reported about 4 a.m. by the victim, who provided a description of the man. Police encountered a man who matched the description while en route.

According to the complaint, 39-year-old Ronald Cooper was walking on Haine School Road. He was sweating and appeared to be intoxicated.

Police said the knife was determined to have come from Cooper’s home and that he knew the back door of the woman’s home was not secure, as he had previously broken it when she was locked out of her house.

Cooper admitted to investigators that he broke into the house on Wednesday to steal something because he was having financial problems. He said he was in the bedroom when the woman woke up, and he briefly confronted her before fleeing.

Cooper told police that he brought the knife so that he could open the back door, the complaint said.

Charges against Cooper include terroristic threats, harassment, burglary and criminal trespass.
