NFL Game Summary - St. Louis At Arizona

POSTED: 8:25 pm EST December 30, 2007

(Sports Network) - Kurt Warner passed for 300 yards with three touchdowns, two to Larry Fitzgerald, as the Arizona Cardinals hammered the St. Louis Rams, 48-19, at University of Phoenix Stadium in the season-finale for both teams.

Warner finished 23-of-39 passing, while Fitzgerald had 11 catches for 171 yards for Arizona (8-8), which has won two straight and three of its last five games. Edgerrin James rushed for 102 yards on 24 carries with a score and Anquan Boldin pulled in four passes for 56 yards and a TD in the win.

Antrel Rolle and Gerald Hayes each returned an interception for a touchdown for Arizona.

Marc Bulger was 13-of-25 passing for 176 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while Torry Holt caught seven passes for 93 yards for St. Louis (3-13), which dropped four in row and five of its last six. Gus Frerotte came in late in the contest and completed one of five passes for four yards and a pick.

Oshiomogho Atogwe returned an interception for a score in defeat.

With Arizona holding a 24-6 lead to start the third quarter, the Rams attempted to get back in the game. Following a Jonathan Wade interception of Warner and return to the Cardinals 37, Bulger dumped it off on the second play of the set to Joe Klopfenstein and the seldom used tight end rumbled his way for a 36-yard touchdown to make it a 24-13 game.

Warner's six-yard touchdown pass to Fitzgerald capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive with 5:45 left in the third quarter.

Atogwe's 52-yard interception for a touchdown cut the Rams' deficit to 31-19. The two-point conversion attempt failed. However, the Cards got seven more on their next possession when Warner connected with Boldin for a 20-yard score in the early stages of the fourth quarter.

Neil Rackers added a 33-yard field goal with just under four minutes left and a 30-yard interception return for a TD by Hayes made it 48-19.

The Rams got off to a quick start when Jeff Wilkins booted a 37-yard field goal on their first possession of the contest, capping an eight-play, 53-yard drive, However Rackers' 23-yarder tied the score at three on Arizona's first offensive set.

Both teams then struggled mightily for the rest of the first quarter and into the second, but Arizona found the end zone with 7:45 left in the half. After St. Louis came up short on a fourth-and-four attempt, the Cardinals took over at their own 43-yard line. Warner connected with Fitzgerald for 25 yards taking it to the Rams 32. Following a short run by James, Warner hooked up with Fitzgerald again, this time for 10 yards, moving it to the St. Louis 20. Four plays later, facing a third-and-goal from the two-yard line, James ran over left tackle and into the end zone, giving the home team a 10-3 advantage.

Rolle intercepted Bulger on the Rams' ensuing possession and returned it 47 yards for a touchdown to make it a 17-3 game. Rolle was flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration after the score.

Following a three-and-out by St. Louis on its next series, the Cardinals went back to work offensively. Arizona converted a key third-and-nine when Warner hit Fitzgerald for 26 yards, taking it to the Rams' 37-yard line. Five plays later Warner threw it into the end zone for Fitzgerald and the star wideout made a circus catch for the 21-yard score. It was challenged by the replay booth being the play happened with less than two minutes remaining in the half, but the play was upheld.

Wilkins booted a 42-yard field goal with nine seconds left in the quarter and Arizona held a 24-6 lead heading into the intermission.
