Kansas City, MO -- (Sports Network) - Tight end Tony Gonzalez will remain with the Kansas City Chiefs as the team couldn't work out a trade.

Head coach Herm Edwards met with the media as he usually does on Tuesdays and announced just after the 4 p.m. (et) league trade deadline that the nine-time Pro Bowl tight end was still a member of the Chiefs.

Edwards wouldn't say which teams were interested in the services of Gonzalez, who asked the Chiefs to explore a deal, but earlier reports indicated the Bills and Eagles were among the interested clubs.

"That's part of football," said Edwards. "There are always going to be distractions and I think the teams that can kind of put those things aside and concentrate on what you have to do...that's what young guys are going to have to learn about professional football. There are always going to be distractions every week, some bigger than others. You can't bring it to work. You have to stay focused on your job and try to prepare."

During a 34-0 loss to Carolina on Oct. 5, Gonzalez became the all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end. He broke the record with a six-yard catch in the latter stages of the first quarter. The reception gave him 10,064 career yards, surpassing Shannon Sharpe's previous record of 10,060. He has 841 catches for 10,075 yards and 68 touchdowns in 179 career games.

Edwards was asked if Gonzalez's attitude and effort may sour because of asking for a trade and then not having a deal ironed out.

"I would say that's wrong," remarked the head coach. "Tony's going to give 100 percent as a professional football player. He always has. That's one thing you can count on him. He takes a lot of pride on being who he is. If not, he wouldn't have achieved all the goals that he's achieved thus far in his career. I don't worry about that at all."
