Bengals' Thurman Reinstated

POSTED: 4:46 pm EDT April 21, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been reinstated from a league-imposed suspension, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell informed the club on Monday.

Thurman missed the entire 2006 season for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy, and was denied reinstatement for 2007 by Goodell. The league cleared Thurman to train and work out at Bengals facilities in January, but had to wait for Goodell's official word.

"Odell has met the NFL's conditions for reinstatement and has been added to our offseason roster," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. "It is now up to Odell to continue to meet all NFL guidelines, and to maintain a standard of personal responsibility that will allow him the chance to compete for a spot on our team."

Thurman, a second-round draft pick out of Georgia who led the team in tackles as a rookie in 2005, was hit with a four-game suspension to begin the 2006 season for the substance abuse violation, but his drunken driving arrest in September 2006 caused the league to extend the suspension for the full season.
