Bengals' Johnson Undergoes Ankle Surgery

POSTED: 2:21 pm EDT June 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle.

The procedure, which was performed by Bengals orthopedic surgeon Angelo Colosimo, was completed without complication, and Johnson is expected to be ready in time for training camp.

The Bengals report to training camp at Georgetown, Kentucky College on July 27, with the first practice scheduled on July 28.

Johnson has had a roller coaster offseason, pushing to be traded from the Bengals. However, he reported in time for minicamp, although he didn't participate fully in any of the practices.

A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Johnson had 93 receptions for a career-high 1,440 yards and eight touchdowns last season when the Bengals finished with a 7-9 record.

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome labeled him as the quarterback of the future, and even traded up in April's NFL Draft for his services. Injuries, however, may be the only reason why Joe Flacco is getting the starting nod for Sunday's season opener versus the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium.
