Owings Mills, MD -- (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Ravens have placed quarterback Kyle Boller on injured reserve because of a shoulder problem and filled the roster spot by signing quarterback Todd Bouman.Boller injured his shoulder in the team's second preseason game. He was competing for the starting position with former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and rookie Joe Flacco. With Boller's injury and Smith bothered by infected tonsils, Flacco was handed the starter's job for the season opener on Sunday against Cincinnati. Boller was in his sixth season with the Ravens, who made the California product the 19th overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft. The 27-year-old veteran started the majority of the Ravens' games in his first three seasons, then watched from the sideline in 2006 before starting eight of the 12 games he played last season and signing a one-year contract extension. Boller completed 168-of-275 passes for 1,743 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions last year. Bouman was released by Jacksonville last weekend despite a solid preseason. He compiled a team-best 107.5 passer rating with a pair of touchdown passes, but was unable to beat out Cleo Lemon for the primary backup job behind David Garrard. In 42 games, including six starts, during an 11-year career that has featured stops in Minnesota, New Orleans, Green Bay, St. Louis and Jacksonville, Bouman has completed 129-of-230 passes for 1,683 yards with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
