Sunday, October 12, 2008
Indianapolis, IN -- (Sports Network) - Peyton Manning threw three touchdowns, including a pair to Marvin Harrison, and the Indianapolis Colts picked up their first victory at brand-new Lucas Oil Stadium with a 31-3 thrashing of the Baltimore Ravens.Manning completed 19-of-28 passes for 271 yards for Indianapolis (3-2), which has won two straight. Reggie Wayne led all Colts receivers with 118 yards on eight grabs and a score, while Dominic Rhodes rushed for 73 yards and a score on 25 carries. Starting tailback Joseph Addai carried the ball only twice for three yards and left in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. "Defensively we did a good job on their running game," said Indianapolis head coach Tony Dungy. "We got ahead and that put them in some passing situations. It was good for our young guys to see how we can play when we are on top of things." Joe Flacco, the 18th overall pick in last April's draft, connected on 28-of-38 throws for 241 yards and three interceptions for the Ravens (2-3), who have dropped three games in a row. Derrick Mason hauled in six balls for 70 yards and Ray Rice added 64 yards on seven receptions. Willis McGahee was limited to 18 yards on eight carries. "Obviously, a disappointing performance," said Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh. "We didn't play very well in all three phases. We got what we deserved, that's what happens when you play the way we did." The first quarter belonged to the Colts, who raced out to a 17-0 lead. Baltimore got off to a sluggish start as Flacco's second pass of the game was tipped and picked off by Melvin Bullitt, who was taken down at the Ravens 30. Indianapolis, though, failed to cash in on the outstanding field position, forced to punt after Manning was sacked by Ray Lewis on third down. After Baltimore was unable to pick up a first down on its second offensive series, Manning connected with Harrison in stride down the right sideline for a 67-yard touchdown. The Colts struck again with 2:43 remaining in the opening quarter. Following another quick three-and-out by the Ravens inept offense, the Colts mounted a 10-play, 61-yard drive that was capped by Manning's 22- yard touchdown pass to Wayne. The struggles continued for the Ravens. On the second play of the ensuing series, Le'Ron McClain had the ball pop out of his hands and Indianapolis recovered the fumble at the Ravens 28. The Baltimore defense held, and Adam Vinatieri came on to kick a 37-yard field goal. Harrison's five-yard touchdown catch gave the Colts a commanding 24-0 lead at halftime. Manning then engineered an 11-play, 80-yard drive on the opening possession of the second half, and Rhodes' one-yard scoring plunge widened the margin to 31. Baltimore managed only three first downs in the entire first half, but recorded five on an epic 15-play drive that chewed up eight minutes of the clock. Matt Stover's 37-yard field goal put the Ravens on the board with 1:15 remaining in the third quarter. Game Notes Robert Mathis recorded three sacks, a forced fumble and recovered a fumble for Indy...Baltimore's Demetrius Williams caught six passes for 53 yards...The Ravens have lost seven straight games on the road...The Ravens defense has gone 24 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher, the longest active streak in the league...The Baltimore offense turned the ball over five times.
