Broncos Release Troubled RB Henry
Monday, June 2, 2008
Englewood, CO -- (Sports Network) - The Denver Broncos announced the release of running back Travis Henry on Monday."Although Travis has the ability to be one of the top running backs in the NFL, we have to make decisions that are in the best interests of our organization and its goal of winning a Super Bowl," Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan said. "We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team." Henry spent just one season with the Broncos, who signed him to a five-year, $22.5 million contract in March of 2007. He ran for 691 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games last year. During the 2007 campaign, Henry was issued a one-year suspension by the NFL for a repeated violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He won an appeal, however, in December. The 29-year-old former University of Tennessee star has also played for Buffalo and Tennessee during his seven-year NFL career. He ran for more than 1,000 yards twice during his four seasons with the Bills and registered 1,211 yards in 2006 with the Titans before signing with Denver as a free agent. Henry has rushed for 6,086 yards and 38 touchdowns in his NFL career.
