NFL Game Summary - Green Bay At Denver

Saturday, August 23, 2008

(Sports Network) - Kregg Lumpkin's one-yard touchdown run with 3:15 left in the game lifted Green Bay over Denver, 27-24, in preseason action.

Trailing 24-20, the Packers (1-2) defense came up big. Tracy White picked off a Patrick Ramsey pass intended for Michael Pittman inside the Denver 20-yard line and returned it the 10. Four players later on 4th-and-goal from the one- yard line, Lumpkin took it in to give Green Bay the win.

Aaron Rodgers was sharp for the Packers completing 18-of-22 passes for 193 yards and a TD. Lumpkin finished with 39 yards rushing and the game-winning score, while Greg Jennings had four receptions for 42 yards.

Jay Cutler struggled at the controls for the Broncos (1-2) , completing 6- of-13 passes for 115 yards. The former Vanderbilt star did have two TD passes, however.

Andre Hall contributed 46 rushing yards on nine carries, while Brandon Marshall had two catches for 71 yards and a score.

The Packers took the opening kickoff and went 80 yards on eight plays to take an early 7-0 lead. Rodgers capped the drive by finding Donald Driver for a 10- yard TD with 11:23 left in the opening quarter.

The Broncos answered with a 40-yard Matt Prater field goal to make it a 7-3 game with just over five minutes to go in the first.

Denver took the lead for the first time in the second quarter when Cutler finished a marathon-like 16-play, 99-yard drive by finding Nate Jackson for a seven-yard score.

Green Bay evened things at 10 late in the half when Mason Crosby booted a 44- yard field goal.

The Broncos weren't finished, however, and were back on the scoreboard in just 16 seconds. After a 31-yard pass interference call, Cutler needed just one play to find Marshall for a 49-yard TD.

Crosby then nailed another field goal as time expired to cut Denver's lead to 17-13 at the half.

The Packers went back in front in the third quarter when Rodgers took it in himself from a yard out with just under 11 minutes to go.

Denver went back on top in the fourth quarter after Ramsey found Pittman for a nine-yard TD with 8:27 remaining in the game.
