Posted: 10:31 am EDT April 7, 2005

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran tight end Marco Battaglia to a one-year contract on Thursday. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Battaglia, who was out of the NFL in 2004, was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He spent six campaigns with the Bengals before being released in 2001.

He was then picked up by Washington where he finished the 2001 season. Battaglia signed with Tampa Bay in 2002, but was released early that year and the Rutgers product then spent the rest of the campaign with the Panthers.

For his career, Battaglia has hauled in 71 passes for 660 yards and two touchdowns in 96 games.
