Niners Waive DE Oliver

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - The San Francisco 49ers have waived defensive end Melvin Oliver.

San Francisco selected Oliver with a sixth-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played in 16 games and started 14 during his rookie season, finishing with 50 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The LSU product missed the entire 2007 season after suffering a knee injury during organized team activities in June.
