Browns Sign GM Savage To 3-year Extension

POSTED: 4:02 pm EDT May 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Browns signed senior vice president and general manager Phil Savage to a three-year contract extension Friday.

The deal keeps Savage in Cleveland through the 2012 season.

Savage began his NFL career with the Browns in 1991 and spent nine years in Baltimore's front office before returning to Cleveland as the general manager in January of 2005.

"I am extremely grateful to Randy Lerner and the Browns' organization for giving me an opportunity as a first time GM back in January 2005 and now to continue with this extension through the 2012 season," Savage told the team's Web site.

"We have worked very hard to turn the Browns around, on and off the field, and our team is looking forward to the 2008 season. From a personal standpoint, I want to also thank the many Browns' fans who have been so supportive during my time here."

The Browns finished 10-6 last season and had six players named to the Pro Bowl.
