Montreal Inks Denis To Two-Way Deal

(Sports Network) - The Montreal Canadiens signed goaltender Marc Denis to a one-year, two-way contract, the club announced Thursday.

Denis played in 10 games last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and posted a 1-5-0 record and 4.05 goals-against average. The previous year he went 17-18-2 in 44 games for Tampa Bay with a 3.19 GAA.

In 348 career NHL games with Colorado, Columbus, and the Lightning, Denis owns a 112-179-28-3 record and 3.02 GAA with 16 shutouts. He was originally the 25th overall selection in the 1995 draft by Colorado.

Thomas Vanek scored twice and the Buffalo Sabres handed the New York Rangers their first defeat of the season, 3-1, at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers started the season 5-0, equaling the 1983-84 squad for the best start in franchise history. New York was vying for the first 6-0 start to a season in club history, but the Sabres had other ideas. Ryan Miller stopped 19-of-20 shots for the Sabres, who won their third straight to start their campaign. Ales Kotalik also scored for Buffalo, which rallied from an early 1-0 deficit with three unanswered scores. Scott Gomez had the lone tally for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist had 16 saves for New York.
