Dallas Drake Calls It Quits

POSTED: 2:11 pm EDT July 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - Veteran forward Dallas Drake has decided to go out a winner and will retire after winning the Stanley Cup with Detroit in his 15th NHL season.

Drake started his career with the Red Wings in 1992-93, then played for the Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise and the St. Louis Blues before returning to Detroit for the 2007-08 campaign. He won the Stanley Cup for the first time this past spring.

After tallying just three goals and three assists in 65 games during the regular season, Drake added a goal and three assists while playing all 22 playoff games for the Wings in their run to the Stanley Cup championship.

In 1,009 career regular-season games, Drake registered 177 goals with 300 assists for 477 points. He added 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 90 playoff games.

Detroit made Drake a sixth-round pick in the 1989 Entry Draft and he joined the Red Wings for the 1992-93 season after a stellar collegiate career at Northern Michigan. He helped the Wildcats capture the 1991 NCAA championship.
