Hurricanes Ink Reed To Entry-Level Deal

POSTED: 12:08 pm EDT May 22, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes signed forward Harrison Reed to a three-year entry-level contract on Thursday.

Reed received a $100,000 signing bonus for inking the deal and will make an average of $500,000 per season if he makes the Hurricanes, or $55,000 per season in the minor leagues.

"Harrison has good speed and a nice shot, as he showed with an excellent training camp for us in 2006," said assistant general manager Ron Francis. "He has a lot of potential and we are looking forward to watching his progress as he begins his career in professional hockey."

The 20-year-old Reed, a 2006 third-round pick by the Hurricanes, recently completed his third full season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), splitting the year between Sarnia and Guelph.

The Newmarket, Ontario native totaled 14 goals and 33 assists in 69 regular season games, and added three goals and two assists in 10 playoff games for Guelph.
