Isles Sign D Streit

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders signed defenseman Mark Streit to a five-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Streit posted a career-high with 13 goals and 62 points for the Canadiens last season and was a regular contributor to Montreal's top-ranked power play unit.

The Islanders, however, finished with the second worst power play unit last season and the signing is expected to directly address that need. In three NHL seasons, Streit has 11 power play goals to go along with 45 assists, finishing tied for second among defenseman last season in power play scoring

The Englisberg, Switzerland, native has 25 goals and 109 points in 205 career games with Montreal.
