Isles Sign D Callahan

(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders signed defenseman Joe Callahan to a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday.

The Brockton, Massachusetts native spent last season with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, finishing the regular season with a goal and 23 assists in 65 games. Callahan was the top defenseman for Portland in the Calder Cup playoffs with a goal and 11 assists in 18 games.

In 298 AHL games, Callahan has seven goals and 59 points to go along with 290 penalty minutes.
