Pens Aim For Sweep In Game 4 At Ottawa

(Sports Network) - The second-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins will try to complete a sweep of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series tonight, when they visit the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place for Game 4 of the best-of-seven set.

The Penguins have won all three meetings so far in this series and have outscored Ottawa, 13-4, in the process. This series has been much different from last year's postseason encounter, when the Senators knocked Pittsburgh out in five games during the conference quarterfinals.

Pittsburgh is attempting to win its first playoff series since downing Buffalo in the 2001 conference semifinals. The Penguins are also trying to sweep a postseason round for the first time since beating Chicago in four straight games during the 1992 Stanley Cup finals.

Meanwhile, Ottawa is in danger of being swept in the first round just one year after winning the Eastern Conference and making its first-ever trip to the Stanley Cup finals.

The Senators were last swept in a playoff series by Toronto in the 2001 conference quarterfinals.

The Pens picked up their latest victory Monday in Ottawa as Sidney Crosby scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to lead Pittsburgh to the 4-1 triumph in Game 3.

The score was tied at 1-1 after 40 minutes, but Pittsburgh scored twice in the opening 1:30 of the third period. Crosby posted the game-winner just 12 seconds into the final stanza.

Marian Hossa notched a goal and two helpers while Maxime Talbot and Jordan Staal also tallied for the Penguins.

Marc-Andre Fleury recorded the victory with a 33-save effort.

Nick Foligno scored for the seventh-seeded Senators, who fell despite welcoming back captain Daniel Alfredsson after he missed the first two games of the series with neck and knee injuries. Alfredsson, who finished second on Ottawa with 89 points this season, had four shots on goal in his first game since April 3.

Martin Gerber allowed all four goals on 38 shots.

The Penguins were just 1-for-8 on the power play in Game 3 after going 4- for-11 in the first two contests. Ottawa has scored just once on 11 opportunities with the man advantage in the series.

The Senators won the season series against the Penguins, going 3-0-1 in four meetings this year. Last year's playoff matchup was the first-ever postseason encounter between the clubs.

Ottawa was 22-15-4 as the hosts this season, while the Pens were 21-17-3 as the visiting club.
