(4) Anaheim Ducks (2-3) At (5) Dallas Stars (3-2), 9 P.m.

(Sports Network) - The Stars will once again try to close out a series' win over the defending Stanley Cup champions tonight, as Dallas welcomes the fourth-seeded Anaheim Ducks to American Airlines Center for Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Dallas held a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, but the Ducks staved off elimination with a home victory in Game 5.

The Ducks became the first-ever West Coast team to win a Stanley Cup championship last year, as they defeated Ottawa in five games to also earn the first league crown in franchise history.

Anaheim is trying to become the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships since Detroit did it in 1997 and '98. However, the Ducks will need two more wins in a row just to get out of the first round.

Dallas, meanwhile, is attempting to get past the opening round in the postseason for the first time since 2003, when it lost in the conference semifinals to Anaheim. The fifth-seeded Stars have been bounced out in the quarters in three straight playoff trips.

Teemu Selanne and Ryan Getzlaf each had a goal and an assist to lead the Ducks to a 5-2 victory in Friday's Game 5 matchup at the Honda Center.

Corey Perry, Sean O'Donnell and Todd Marchant each had a goal for the Ducks, while Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 40 saves in the win.

Perry was Anaheim's leading goal-scorer during the regular season with career- high 29 tallies. He suffered a partially severed tendon in his right quadriceps on March 6 and was out until game 5 of this series. Perry has a goal and an assist in his two playoff appearances this year.

Ducks forward Rob Niedermayer has missed the last three games of this series with concussion-like symptoms. He has joined the team in Dallas, but his status is questionable for this evening's game.

Mattias Norstrom and Mike Ribeiro each had a goal while Marty Turco gave up four goals on 31 shots in the loss for the Stars.

In addition to the absence of top defenseman Sergei Zubov, who has been out since January with a foot injury, the Stars also played Game 5 without veteran blueliner Philippe Boucher. Boucher, who is suffering from an unspecified lower-body injury, is also expected to miss tonight's game.

Dallas won the season series against the Ducks this year, posting a 5-3-0 mark in the eight meetings. The only playoff encounter between these clubs came in 2003, when Anaheim beat the Stars in six games.

The Stars were a solid 23-16-2 at home during the regular season. The Ducks struggled on the road, going 19-18-4 away from Orange County.

If necessary, the seventh and deciding game of this series will take place Tuesday night in Anaheim.
