PITTSBURGH -- A woman gave birth on the Parkway North near PNC Park early Tuesday morning.

The woman, whose name has not been released, gave birth shortly before 9 a.m. with the help of her husband and paramedics.

The wife started giving birth as she and her husband were on their way to the hospital, medics said.

Paramedics arrived shortly after the husband pulled over. They said the husband realized the baby wasn’t waiting, so he pulled over and helped deliver the baby boy.

Channel 11 News spoke with an EMT who helped assist the father in delivering the baby.

"Dad did a fantastic job," said paramedic Greg Tersine. "He did start the birthing process and he helped direct us in and was of assistance also with us in getting mom loaded up and on our way."

Paramedics said they give the father a lot of credit for thinking quickly and being helpful.

The mother and son were transported to Magee Womens Hospital by ambulance.
