Pittsburgh Mission Expects 1,000 For Massive Thanksgiving Meal

A Pittsburgh mission expects to host 1,000 people or more for a massive Thanksgiving feast.

Chefs at the mission said they started cooking about two months ago. They cooked a batch of turkeys each week, which consisted of 20 to 25 turkeys a piece. They used four ovens to cook the birds. Then a group of volunteers came in to cut the meat, put everything into foil pans and freeze it.

Chefs started to thaw everything Wednesday. They also cooked stuffing, potatoes, and other sides. Volunteers donated hundreds of pies to the cause.

The doors will be open Thursday from noon until 6:00 p.m.

In addition to the people who will eat at the mission, workers will also deliver meals to senior citizens living in 13 housing centers throughout the city.

Light of Life Mission on the North Side started its Thanksgiving tradition in 1952. It provides meals for needy families or for people who are looking for a place to eat for the holiday.
