PITTSBURGH -- Mayor Luke Ravenstahl declared the city of Pittsburgh in a state of a disaster emergency after severe storms moved through the region throughout the day on Thursday.

Ravenstahl and public safety officials are monitoring the situation at the Emergency Operations Center.

He encourages residents to stay home as they are currently monitoring the approach of any future storm.

The entire Channel 11 viewing area was impacted by several rounds of storms on Thursday.

Many communities were under severe weather alerts throughout the day, including a Tornado Warning that was issued for Allegheny County around 2:30 p.m.

The storms first started moving through the area at 7 a.m. and flooding was reported in Millvale and along McKnight Road.

Some of the hardest hit areas from the morning storms were Ross Township and Millvale, of the Girty’s Creek watersheds, Sharpsburg, Wilkins Township and Penn Hills.

That prompted Allegheny County to activate its emergency operations center.

Channel 11 alerted residents of a second round of storms approaching the region shortly before 2 p.m.

Within moments, a Tornado Warning was issued for Allegheny County.

There have been no official reports of a tornado touching down in the county yet.

However, Weather Plus Meteorologist Scott Harbaugh alerts viewers that a third round of storms is expected Thursday night.
